Dear Transylvania County Conservatives,

While the June 27 Trump-Biden presidential debate might be remembered as the most impactful in American political history, the stakes for Tuesday’s (Sept. 10) Trump-Harris debate (9 p.m., ABC) couldn’t be much higher with most polling indicating a dead heat.

Having already knocked out the cognitively-challenged Joe Biden, Donald Trump will, in my opinion, score punches if he can: 1) Tie Kamala Harris to Biden and the miserable state of the nation (and don't buy Kamala's temporary repackaging as a moderate), and 2) Continue to hammer home your policy specifics that will Make America Great Again.

If I were helping with debate prep: "Mr. President... Call out "word salad," stay off crowd sizes, do not rehash Russia! Russia! Russia! or the 2020 election. Talk about how the far-left (the global elite class) is destroying our country, emphasize restoring national pride and military strength, make it about FIGHT-FIGHT-FIGHT, fighting for freedom-loving Americans, and all the while provide a positive vision for the future if you are elected."

RFK, Jr. Impact: Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.’s name will be removed from ballots in North Carolina and Michigan. This is a win for Donald Trump who is endorsed by Kennedy and polling better in a head-to-head match-up against Kamala Harris. Trump hopes to secure the majority of voters who were committed to Kennedy (4-5%).

Forbes: “Former President Donald Trump's sentencing in his Manhattan criminal case won't take place until November—after the election—as Judge Juan Merchan granted Trump's request for a delay Friday in order to not wade into the November election. Merchan postponed the sentencing, originally scheduled for Sept. 18, until Nov. 26, also pushing back until Nov. 12 a planned decision on whether the verdict should be thrown out in light of the Supreme Court’s ruling giving Trump some immunity from criminal prosecution.”

New York, New York: A new study has determined 75% of those arrested in Midtown Manhattan for assault, robbery, and domestic violence are illegal migrants. Appearing on Fox News, Tom Feeley, former director of NY ICE Removals, cited four actions to clean up the mess: 1) Eliminate sanctuary city status, 2) Eliminate granting illegal immigrants a driver's license, 3) Bail reforms, and 4) Hold ICE detainees.

From State Senator Kevin Corbin: At last Wednesday’s forum, Sen. Corbin announced nearly $6.5 million in state funded teacher supplements for his eight counties, including $700,000 for Transylvania County.

Upper Transylvania: Your TC GOP has made a concerted effort to reach all county communities, including Upper Transylvania and its four western precincts. The upcoming calendar has several UT events scheduled:

Thurs., Sept 12 - Eastatoe Community Center Patriot Pizza Rally, 76 Clay Pole Road, 6 p.m., with county candidates (free event)

Tues., Sept. 24 - Balsam Grove Community Center Patriot Pizza, 8732 Parkway Rd., 6 p.m., with Lt. Gov. candidate Hal Weatherman and county candidates (free event)

Thurs., Sept. 26 - TC GOP Social at Jim’s Place, 17863 Rosman Highway, Sapphire, 5-7 p.m.

BOE Candidates Show Well: Big winners at last Wednesday’s Chamber Forum were the three Republican TCS Board of Education candidates (Greg Cochran, Ruth Harris, and Ricky Lambert). They spoke with one thoughtful voice. They are adamantly opposed to consolidation and understand the impact if Rosman were to lose its high school. The Democrats were all over the map on this issue and did NOT answer the question. The Republicans support parents' rights and defended the Parents' Bill of Rights law passed by the NC Legislature last year. They see it purely as a safety net. The Democrats spoke against the law. One Dem candidate went as far as to say the law was "weaponized against teachers," which, of course, is not true.

BOC KO’d Dems: At last Wednesday’s Chamber Forum, four Republican Board of Commission candidates did an excellent job of setting the record straight on the school repair effort. Bonds will be sold in October to kick off a 10-year, $121 million inflation-adjusted plan to repair nine school buildings. This took the wind out of the Dems' disingenuous campaign!

TCS Board of Education Meeting: At last Tuesday’s meeting, regarding bond dollars and fixing schools, Superintendent Lisa Fletcher explained her staff cannot possibly manage “213 (repair) projects spread across 11 sites.” The BOE voted 3-2 to cede control of the $68 million bond funds to the Board of Commissioners to fix the schools.

Please stay curious and ask questions.

Best Wishes,

Jeff Brewer
